I. e. observing performance, complimenting good work, helping to correct & improve any performance not meeting standards. Concerned w/ lt performance & ensuring that dvlpmental plan being achieved. To be successful, need to establish helping relationship. Esp important when supervisor & subordinate do not share similar cultural backgrounds. Allows for cultural transvergence (cultural diffs discussed openly, alternate practices that enhance performance are implemented) 4 guiding principles: good coaching relationship essential (trusting, collaborative) Coach must listen in order to understand (walk in employee"s shoes) Coach needs to search for positive aspects of employee. Will lead to better understanding & acceptance of employee.
