Influence = ability to affect perceptions, attitudes, behaviours of others. Impression management = direct, intentional effort by someone to enhance own image in eyes of others. Power = potential ability of person/group to exercise control over another person/group. Position power = tied to position, regardless of indiv who holds it. Personal power = power that resides in person, regardless of position. Org politics = activities ppl perform to acquire, enhance, use power & other resources to obtain preferred outcomes in situation where uncertainty/disagreement exists. Most managers do not advocate use of political behaviour but acknowledge its necessity. Cannot eliminate political activity in org, must learn to cope w/ it. Req of understanding how to manage political behaviour. Org justice = perceptions of ppl in org regarding fairness. 4 forms: distributive, procedural, interpersonal, information.
