Document Summary

General functions of muscle tissue: produce movement, open & close body passageways, maintain posture and stabilize joints, generate heat. Skeletal muscle tissue cardiac muscle tissue smooth muscle tissue. Walls of hollow organs i. e. stomach, bladder, respiratory tubes. Nerves & blood vessels: generally, each skeletal muscle is supplied by 1 nerve, 1 artery and 1+ vein. They enter muscle near middle: rich supply reflect demand of contraction. Muscle attachment: site on bone where muscle connects to: origin: less moveable end of muscle attachment, more proximal. Music tone: muscles that generate low level of contractile force, helps reinforce & support joints. Isometric contraction: (same length) muscle develops tension but length is unchanged i. e. attempting to move a heavy object. Isotonic contraction: includes both eccentric and concentric contractions: eccentric contraction: when muscle generates force while lengthening. Circular arranged in concentric rings surrounding external body openings which close by contracting. Convergent origin of muscle is broad & fascicles converge toward tendon of insertion.
