Major issue today, there"s a lot of information & misinformation going around, hard to tell which ones are true. Complex concern b/c involves medical & social issues. Overfat: % of body fat is exceeded. Obese: a large excess above overfatness possible to be overweight w/o being overfat (more muscle) & to be overfat & not be overweight (fat & muscle ratio) Height-weight tables: study determined the ideal weight of people relating to height & published them (life insurance company published them, flaw is they don"t consider body composition, they don"t look at body fat. Cvd, diabetes, cancer chronic diseases: subjective criteria of overweight: you have your own idea of what overweight is. Waist circumference: girth: waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, waist-height ratio better indication of the risk of cvd (reflects abdominal adiposity, storage of fat, women > 80cm europid men > 94cm. Skinfold thickness: can predict body density by measuring skinfolds.
