Overview: cancer is leading cause of death in canada. More males die of cancer than females: cancer leading cause of potenial years of life lost (pyll) Mechanisms of cancer: involves uncontrolled muliplicaion of cell. Cell with dna grows and divides and grows and divides: why do we have cancer. Cancer occurs when mutaion (allows uncontrolled cell division) happen to dna. Damaged dna cell is not repaired, unlike normal cells and they keep growing. Many cancer cells killed by white blood cells. Ones that aren"t killed can progress into clumps called tumours. Then cell travel to other parts of bodies creaing more tumours through lymph vessels or blood stream and tumour replace normal cell = metastasis. Cancer-causing agents are called carcinogens chemicals which can be inhaled or ingested through food or water. Pathogens : cancer can cause problems in several diferent ways. Oten form tumour or mass of cells.
