Through autonomic nervous system (ans) thoughts and feelings are reflected physically. Brain does a lot of the control/regulation of the body. E. g. , blood pressure, body temperature, metabolic rate. Positive mental attitude can improve immune system, but tension can suppress it. The capacity to cope with life situations, grow emotionally through them, develop to full potentials, and grow in awareness and consciousness. Emotional health: ability to constructively deal with reality, regardless of whether the actual situation is good or bad. Not the same as conforming to social norms. It does not mean never seeking help for personal problems. People living life at their fullest were self-actualized. Individuating is development from being dependent on parents to developing our own identity, and core values and beliefs. Cope in the short-term such as fantasizing, repressing our feelings or sublimate (channel unacceptable urges into socially acceptable activities) Mentally healthy (self-actualized) people: realistic, positive self concept, appropriately high self-esteem. General sense of satisfaction with one"s self.
