Initiatives send out msgs to increase healthy behaviours. Limits analysis of health risks to biomedical and behavioural risk factors. Biomedical: screening for physiological/medical risk factors like htn, gluc, cholesterol, excess weight. Behavioural risk factors: physical activity, type of diet, alcohol, tobacco. Individualism: assumes current social system provides sufficient and equal opportunity. It is the material and social living conditions that people experience. Brunner and marmots model mentions little pol, ec, and social forces - its linear. Model shows direct link with material factors and health status, concrete living conditions. Second pathway is social structure shapes social and work environments to create psychological and behavioural responses. Third pathway is same environments creating behavioural responses that directly impair bodily organs. Early life, genes, and culture contribute to all lvls of the model. This model does not take into account complexity of health determinants. Social structure shapes conditions of work and quality of social environments.
