Consists of products, texts, practices enjoyed by many people. Unlike high culture" - more for rich people, intellectuals, artistic. Consists of traditional practices and beliefs or way of life of a specific group. It is considered to fall outside the definitions of culture around elite artistic production. Cited as the thing that threatens to destroy culture. The global entertainment industry has blurred lines between different cultures. These criticisms all have point to the feeling that something has been lost, culture has been contaminated by commerce. Popularity is measured by patterns of consumption. Popular culture is what people make, or do for themselves. These two definitions of culture are very diff. Media pop culture is threatening the culture of everyday life by diverting people"s desire for fulfillment into habits of passive consumption. F-culture: cultural products and practices developed over time w/in a particular community/ group communicated down generations. Direct expression of life experiences shared by its creators and their audience.
