Chapter 1: sociology and the study of society. People in the society might diagree the functioning of the social instituions. Lack of coherence within a society can arise conflicts: within a society, people are in agreement of behaviours, beliefs and values of their society but some might disagerre or don"t folllow these norms. Misuses of the term society : society tells us . A notion of what is normal vs. abnormal. Perception that majority of society thinks or has a certain view of something and you feel the need to follow it: society thinks/ believes, (or with institutions) the media makes people think . We personify society as a person who is thinking, feeling and telling as well as interacting with the individual as a powerful entity that dictates their thoughts and behaviours. From the moment we are born, we are, of necessity, part of the social world; none of us can ever be free of it.
