Instinct - unlearned, biologically determined behaviour pattern (humans do not have instinct) Reflex - unlearned, biologically determined involuntary response to stimuli. Drive - unlearned, biologically determined impulses to satisfy needs. Material culture consists of physical and tangible creations. Technology is knowledge techniques, and tools that make it possible to transform resources or raw material into usable forms. Nonmaterial culture consists of intangible human creations of society that influence behaviour. George murdock created a list of 70 cultural universes, customs and practices that occur across all societies. Categories: appearances, activities, social institutions, customary practices (may vary from one group to another) Can simultaneously produce loyalty and animosity, love and hate. The interpretation of symbols varies in different cultural contexts.
