Freud"s teacher was part of an intellectual movement known as mechanism. Addresses questions about the nature and possibilities of the science of biology. Vitalism movement- argued that biological science not fully explain biological life, because life arose from nonmaterial forces forces. Mechanists - principles of natural science could provide explanation. Freud had many developing theories, some were abandoned after things happened in his life, like his father passing away or having to support his family, so worked as an actual physician. Then he faced depression and anxiety, he used himself as an example, which he thought would reveal unconscious thoughts and desire. He discrouved that a hypnosis didn"t work, so he found out free association does. Free association: thinking without stopping yourself for any reasons, thinking freely. In doing so, freud believes that you will uncover things that never knew. Scientific and therapy, and it became the primary evidence for personality theory.
