Activities of daily living (adl): individuals ability to complete the tasks of everyday life incl. bathing, dressing, eating. Instrumental activities of daily living (iadl): individuals ability to complete other tasks incl. shopping, preparing meals, doing the laundry, take medications. Behavioural risk factors for chronic disease: sedentary lifestyle, smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diet. Cvd: abnormal conditions that develop in the heart and arteries. Fatty deposits collect at an abnormally high rate, reducing the width of the arteries and limiting circulation. Can be lived with without serious problems. When arteriosclerosis affects arteries that feed the heart muscle. Acute condition when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is reduced or blocked. Systolic bp >140 mm hg; diastolic > 90 mm hg. The pressure exerted on the arteries places strain on their walls and these walls eventually weaken and inflame.
