Observation: elements of social perception social perception: a general term for the processes by which people come to understand one another a persons physical appearance: Rst impressions are in uenced by a persons height, weight, skin colour, hair colour, tattoos, piercings and other physical appearances. Older generation names (harry, walter) are seen as unpopular. Younger generation names (michelle, michael) are seen as popular. Baby features are seen as kind and submissive. Mature features are see as stronger and more dominant. Behavioural scripts can be elaborate studying the rst date script . Our expectations for how situations e ect us can in uence the way we interpret other people"s facial expressions. Ex. participants were shown pictures of humans with ambiguous facial expressions. When told the person was being threatened they saw the facial expression as fearful.
