Social psychology - seeks to understand, explain, and predict how people"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. Culture - a set of beliefs, values, and attitudes shared by most members of that community. A way a person identifies himself or herself. Individualist cultures - those in which individual goals and wishes are prized above duty to and relations with others. Collectivist cultures - those in which harmony with one"s group is prized above individual goals and wishes. A sociostructural perspective suggests we would be well advised to. Be aware of the possibility for misunderstandings. Attitudes - relatively stable and enduring evaluations of things and people. Affective component - how we feel toward the object. Behavioural component - how we behave toward the object. Cognitive component - what we believe about the object. Sometimes attitudes predict behaviour (if specific and strong) When attitudes do not predict behaviour, explanations for this.
