People created religion to explain puzzling phenomena. Causes of storms, thunders, etc. challenges people and makes them question. Religion was created to explain puzzling mental phenomena. Dreams, ghosts, etc. are all phenomena that have no satisfactory explanation in everyday life. A spirit is a disembodied person and their characteristics make them similar to persons seen in dreams or hallucinations. God is a further version of this projection of mental phenomena. Everything has a cause that gets passed along to something else. The cause of the universe as a whole can only be attributed to a first creator aka. Religion tells you why and how evil originated in the world. Explanation of thunderstorms as the booming voice of ancestors venting their anger. Explaining a limited aspect of the human world, we assume a whole imaginary world with superhuman agents that cannot be seen, in a place that cannot be reached.
