NUR 80A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Ethnography, Job Satisfaction, Grounded Theory
Document Summary
Chapter 6: scrutinizing research problems, research questions, and hypothesis. Research problem: perplexing condition that can be identified by qualitative and quantitative researchers. Problem statement: articulates the problem to be addressed. Research questions: specific queries researchers want to answer in addressing the problem. Statement of purpose: the researcher"s summary of the overall goal sometimes with objectives. Quantitative studies involve concepts that are well developed, about which there is an existing body of literature and for which reliable methods of measurements have been developed. Qualitative studies are undertaken because some aspect of a phenomenon is poorly understood and the researcher wants to develop a rich, context bound understanding of it. An important consideration is whether the research problem fits the chosen paradigm and its associated methods. Researchers begin with interests in a broad topic area then develop the topic into a more specific researchable problem. Several research questions are created to further explore the topic.
