Cardiac pain does not occur w/ resp variations and is mostly on left side of chest and radiates to left arm for men. Less definitive in women sensation of choking, breathlessness, or pain radiating through back. Pericardial pain inflammation of pericardial sac, non-radiating + occur with inspiration. Pleuritic pain peripheral, radiate to scapular regions, worse with inspiratory movements (i. e. cough, yawn, sighing), knife-like . Musculoskeletal pain present w/ exercise, rib trauma, prolonged coughing episodes, worse by inspiratory movements (similar to pleuritic: fatigue. Fatigue in pt w/ cardiopulmonary alterations early sign od worsening of chronic underlying process. Rate on scale of 0-10 = objective measure: smoking. Hx of it, # of years and packages/day (packages/day x yrs smoked) Sign of exaggerated resp effort, use of accessory muscles of respiration, nasal flaring, and marked increases in rate and depth of resp.
