NSE 13A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 24: Hip, Anatomical Terms Of Location, Midcarpal Joint
Document Summary
Consist of the body"s bones, joints, and muscles. Joint: the place of union between two or more bones. Nonsynovial joints are the bones that are united by fibrous tissue/cartilage. Synovial joins have a layer of resilient cartilage coverts the surface of opposing bones. The cartilage is tough, firm, consistent and yet very flexible. Ligaments are bands running directly from one bone to another that strengthen the joint and help prevent movement in undesirable directions. Bursa is an enclosed sac filled with viscous synovial fluid, much like a joint. They are located in areas of potential friction (i. e. subacrominal bursa of shoulder, prepatellar bursa of the knee) Skeletal is composed of bundles of muscle fibres (fasciculi). Skeletal muscle is attached to bone by a tendon, a strong fibrous cord. Temporomandibular joint: the articulation of the mandible and the temporal bone. Spine: the vertebrae = 33 connecting bones stacked vertically. L4 highest point on each iliac crest crosses.
