Based on perceptions, exists when one party believes that another might obstruct its efforts. Elton mayo said employee management conflict undermines organizational effectiveness. It waste productive time, violates hierarchy of command, and questions efficient assignment of authority. Stressful, consumes personal energy and distract employees. Decision making suffers because people are less motivated to communicate. 1970 begin to embrace the optimal conflict perspective. Optimal conflict perspective says that orgs are most effective when employees experience some level of conflict but become less effective with high levels of conflict. Moderate levels of conflict prevent organizations from becoming nonresponsive to their external environment. ( encourage active thinking) People more motivated to work together when faced with an external threat.
