Relevant= useful and appropriate for types of work and decisions that require it. Bit: smallest unit of data a computer can handle (binary digital; 0,1) Byte: groups of bits (8 bits of data); represents one character, which can be a letter, number, or another symbol (uni-code system takes 16 bits, 2 bytes) uni code or ascii code. Field: grouping characters (bytes) into a word, group of towards, or complete number is called a field. Key field: identifier field used to retrieve, update, sort a record (needs to be good) Record: group of fields such as students courses taken, date and grade is called a record. File: group of records of same type (eg. students course file) Entity: what record describes; person, place thing or event about which we store and maintain info.
