Document Summary
Ethics: refers to the principles of rights and wrong that individuals, acting as free moral agents use to make choices to guide their behaviors. Information systems raise new ethical questions because they create opportunities for intense social change and thus threaten existing distribution of power, money, rights and obligations. Internet and digital tech make it easier than ever to assemble, integrate and distribute information, unleashing new concerns on the use of consumer info, protection of personal property and protection of intellectual property. Other issues include establishing consequences of information systems, setting standards to safe guard system quality that protects safety of individual, and preserving values and institutions considered essential to the quality of life in an information society. Dependence on systems and vulnerability to system errors and poor data quality have increased. Social rules and laws have not yet been adjusted to fit these trends. Made routine violations of privacy cheap and effective.
