GMS 802 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: Infant Formula, Taking Steps, Intangible Property
Document Summary
New science and technology pushes us to the frontier not only of our knowledge but also our comfort zone. Similar to a pebble being thrown into a pond, the introduction of new technology causes ripples through our society; other times, the technology changes the way we think and do things. Management at the frontier is best understood in light of the three decision guidelines: current standards of conduct are called into question, the character of the organization is at stake, stakeholders are not necessarily easily identified. Being on the frontier is often associated with new, unchartered markets with little activity within the legal or regulatory system. The connections between technology and values have long been evident, even if they aren"t always discussed or carefully thought through. Innovation can, at times, be thought of as an amoral endeavor devoid of value judgments or without moral implications.
