Graffiti art: a contemporary study of toronto artists by tracey e. bowen. Since it first appeared as an art form in late-1960s new york city, graffiti has been controversial. Misconceptions about their motives and stereotypes linking artists to crime and vandalism have been fuelled by media reports that are often biased. The voices of graffiti artists have rarely been heard by either art community or broader society, esp. outside the united states. Graffiti has crossed boundaries of street culture, youth culture, and art community, and while this may be attractive to many artists it also places them in contradictory. Relationships: may see themselves as outsiders to conventional social structures, yet many believe their work enliven the (cid:272)it(cid:455)"s de(cid:396)eli(cid:272)t a(cid:396)eas a(cid:374)d is thei(cid:396) contribution to the community. Due to battle, definition of graffiti art as it appeared in toront and provide participating toronto-based graffiti artists with an opportunity to tell stories.
