Advocacy ideals what advocates hope to accomplish as a result of their work. Advocates hold to a set of ideals, and when an agency, city, country, etc, falls short of those ideals, they want to act. We advocate to create a just society in which all persons have equal opportunities to pursue their potential. Get involved in issues because clients haven"t been treated fairly or their opportunities are blocked/unequal. Advocate in order to protect existing individual rights and entitlements and to establish new rights and entitlements as needed. Advocate to eliminate the negative and unethical impact that social institutions, organizations, programs, and individuals may have on people. Use these ideals as assessment criteria when monitoring operations of various programs and policies. Children and youth is the client group most frequently advocated for. Most advocated for groups include those who are perceived to have little power, and who are unable to effectively advocate for themselves.
