Towards a comprehensive theoretical framework for disability research: brofenbrenner. Evidence saying that sociocultural factors outside the classroom influence outcomes of academic achievement; school restructuring efforts and inclusive classrooms focus on the importance of the child"s home and community ecology. Ecological model focuses on many areas of risk and the reciprocal nature of child and environment. Personal attributes model: examines development solely as a function of the person, compares children with disabilities to typically developing children, used more as predictor variables. Type of disability and child"s initial developmental status influence the degree of developmental gain, family aspects mediate child outcome and were the greatest predictor of developmental loss. Microsystem: perception of the immediate environment, distinctive characteristics of the people that the child is interacting with (personality, interactive style) 2 family characteristics significantly linked are parenting harmony and family harmony, and growth promoting parental practices. Exosystem: parent workplace, parent social networks, community influences.
