Relationships are connections established when communicating with others, while an interpersonal relationship is a perception shared by two people of an ongoing connection that results in the development of relational expectations and interpersonal intimacy. Communicate sense of intimacy directly through words and indirectly through actions, more likely to be direct if you are very close to the person. Complementary relationships: occur when one partner dominates and make most decisions and experience few decision making con icts because one always defers to the other. Symmetrical relationships: are when both partners either have or don"t have power, same ideal. Competitive symmetrical relationships: both people want power and control of decision making. Submissive symmetrical relationship: neither partner wants control, tend to lack decision making. Parallel relationships: shifting of the power between partners depending on the situation. Interpersonal attraction: degree to which you want to form and maintain an interpersonal relationship.
