William carson"s grandson got tired of all the serifs and then created sanserif. During the second industrial revolution advertising needed new typefaces: letters were made taller and wider, this led to the creation of egyptian type. In the 19th century in germany paul renner created a simple type face called future which is a geometric sans which is based off of geometric shapes. Eric gill around the same time created gill sans which is a humanist sans it is like geometric sans but curvier and less defined.
