CLD 322 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Sampling Frame, Statistical Parameter, Rede Ferroviária Nacional
Document Summary
Parameter: an atribute found in the populaion that can be measured. Staisic: the value of a variable obtained from a sample rather than from the populaion exhibiing the characterisics. 3 major problems when esimaing unknown parameters from known staisics: the deiniion of the populaion, the sample design, the size of the sample. Problem = how to determine the populaion involved. The speciic nature of the populaion depends on the research problem. Populaion has to be deined in terms of: content, extent, time. Sampling frame: complete lising of sampling units. Researcher has to ensure a high degree of correspondence between a sampling frame and the sampling populaion. Incomplete frames: sampling units found in the populaion are missing from the list. Clusters of elements: sampling units are listed in groups rather than individually. Not necessarily an individual: can be an event, university, city, naion, document, etc.
