4 major methods of data collecion: observaional method, survey research, qualitaive research, secondary data analyses. Acions taken by individuals as they structure the physical space around them. Words, the manifest content of speech, and the various atributes of verbal communicaion. Triangulaion: the use of muliple methods in a study to see if the indings that emerge from each will converge on a common conclusion, increasing validity. All research indings are afected by the nature of the data collecion methods and assumpions used. Arifacts: indings that are a product of the methods and assumpions. Non-content aspects of verbal behavior: speed, volume, tone, interruping. Main advantage = directness: enables researchers to study behaviour as it occurs in real ime and collect data irst hand. Observer must inference or be straighforward: observe acion and explain what it might be, ask a quesions, suggesions, interrupts. Researchers can use observaional methods when individuals are unwilling to express themselves verbally.
