78% of reported instances of assault were allegedly committed by parents: it seems as if violence within the home is more prevalent in today"s society than in the past. Children younger than 5 are over-represented among young people living with domestic violence: prevalence of abuse is reportedly four times higher for young girls, young boys are more likely to experience physical injuries. Violence - action that is intended to bring physical harm to another person: involve the use of force and intimidation. Abuse usually - a situation in which a more powerful person attempts to exert control over a less powerful person. Maltreatment - intentional harm or endangerment of a child including unkindness, harshness, rejection, neglect, deprivation and/or violence. Neglect - situations in which the child"s needs are not met by the adult, which may interfere with the child"s development. Physical abuse - deliberate force has been used on the child to cause physical harm.
