Document Summary

99. 9% of the human genome is identical among homo sapiens. 95% represents gene expression modulators, introns, and other dna. All cells of living things contain dna. Every cell of a particular organism has the exact same dna: except t and b immune cells. Human cells contains 2 types of dna: nuclear and mitochondrial. A nuclear dna strand is a large molecule made by linking a series of repeating units of nucleotides. Nucleotide: composed of a sugar, a phosphorous, and a base (a nitrogen containing molecule: 4 types of bases: adenine (a), guanine (g), cytosine (c), and thymine (t) The order of the bases is what distinguishes different dna. The dna molecule comprises of 2 strands wrapped around each other in a double-helix. The bases on each strand are aligned in a way known as complementary- base pairing: adenine pairs with thymine, guanine pairs with cytosine. Dna produces proteins by combining amino acids.
