Document Summary

The narrator does not like to participate in debates regarding religion but he has still developed a reputation to hate religion. People say "doesn"t your hostility mark you out as a fundamentalist atheist, just as fundamentalist in your own way as the wingnuts of the bible belt in theirs?" He needs to get rid of this fundamentalist accusation it is so common. Fundamentalists know they are right because they read something in the bible and nothing can change that. Words in the bible are not final and are not the end product of reasoning. If anything contradicts the statements in the bible they need to be thrown out. He believes it is about evidence not about what you read. As a scientist, i am hostile to fundamentalist religion because it actively debauches the scientific enterprise. It teaches us not to change our minds, and not to want to know exciting things that are available to be known.
