10. 4 describe two different types of infections of the brain: brain infection invasion of the brain by microorganisms; resulting in encephalitis. If cells not too damaged will attempt apoptosis: evolutionary perspective, apoptosis is more adaptive than necrosis. In necrosis damaged neuron swells and breaks apart: fragmentation leads to inflammation that can cause more damage, quick (few hours) In apoptosis death is slow (1-2 days) and starts with shrinkage of cell body: as more parts die, they are packed in vesicles, no inflammation to nearby cells.
