Today the previously neglected wisdoms of the eastern traditions are being consulted in addition to those originating in the west w/ a goal of adding diff viewpoints about human strengths. Common eastern perspective the world & its inhabitants are in a perpetual state of flux (an expectation for & desire for balance vs westerners linear path to resolve probs & monitor progress. Easterners move w the cycle of life until the change process becomes natural & enlightenment is achieved. Westerns rewards on physical plane; easterners seek to transcend the human plane & rise to the spiritual one. The eastern search for spiritual transcendence parallels the westerners hopeful pursuits for a better life on earth. 3 influential western traditions: athenian, judeo-christian, islam.
