Research in sexuality may be challenging to conduct due to: difficulty finding participants, sensitive topic, difficulty finding interested participants who are. Random samples: participants selected at random to accurately represent population of interest: challenging to find random samples in sexuality research. Questionnaires: set of multiple choice or short-answer qns that is designed to obtain specific information: some people may be uncomfortable filling up such questionnaires. Difficult to remain free of bias: sexuality is defined differently in different cultures. Early texts served instructional, cultural, and religious purposes for those who had education and wealth to access to them. Early sex manuals preserve detailed descriptions of how sexuality was viewed in past times. Western nations: texts that discussed sexuality were often censored: but texts encouraging people to suppress their sexual desires were generally allowed to circulate. Continued to serve instructive purposes until late 19th ce.
