Joseph siey s was a clergyman before the revolution. Estate. in this pamphlet he presented many arguments. He aimed to answer three question is his pamphlet: what is the third estate? = everything. the third estate forms the foundation for the rest of the system. They farm the land for food and manufacture and sell goods. Without these services the entire political system to collapse. The third estate has no political power as it is oppressed by the aristocracy. Sieyes believes the aristocracy has no right to do this though. The third estate also have no legal privileges. Those who do have these privileges cannot belong to the third estate. Members of the third class may be talented, but due to the system, they can only progress so far, which is unfair to them: what does it [the third estate] demand? = to become something.
