Protestors are never won their demands are modulated to meet w ongoing institutional arrangements: achievements return to what it was. Sometimes inds without status or rank create change y are inds without power resources able to win anything. Rooted in social and cooperative relations: social life = cooperative life all inds who make contributions to systems have potential power over those who depend on them, not concentrated at the top. Networks of cooperation come to be governed by rules and ideas we call institutions: become sites of contentions. Janus-faced shape identities and purposes of inds and they socialize inds to conform. Bc inds have diverse ends, and they are social and cooperative creatures, they will try to use their relations w others: yield participants the power to act on diverse and conflicting purposes. Both sides of these relations have potential for exercising power and exert power by withdrawing from social cooperation.
