Brief overview of strain theory: certain strains or stressors increase the likelihood of crime, strains refer to events or conditions that are disliked for individuals. Strains crime terrorism: terrorism is more extreme than most common crime (commission of serious violent crimes. Are high in magnitude with civilian victims: collective strains are high in magnitude because they have these characteristics. Frequent, long duration, expected to continue into the future. They are widespread (high absolute and relative number of people in the strained collectivity) Less likely in these cases: unlikely to cause terrorism unless it involves the violations of justice norms, the intentional or voluntary infliction of collective strain is seen as unjust if, strain is seen as undeserved.
