Quebec"s policies on childcare, parental leave and other measures to improve the work-family balance are often presented as a model for the rest of canada. In jan 2006, the quebec govt established a new parental leave insurance plan - implemented a different policy than the rest of canada. Universal support provided to families and increased assistance to low income. Facilitate a balance of parental and work related responsibilities. Foster child development and promote equal opportunities. Aim of public intervention is to balance the demands of family life and work by allowing individuals to remain employed while meeting family responsibilities. Makes it possible to combine family with employment without having to sacrifice one for the other. Highly accessible and developed child care services, excellent working time arrangements and paid/flexible parental leave. Encourage a more equal sharing of work related duties and domestic responsibilities. First and foremost a policy of gender equality and childhood policy.
