Biological foundations of sensory perception - the nervous system. Gall"s phrenology map: an early way to map the brain using the surface of the head for cerebral localization. Bumps in particular places were linked to certain personality traits and other mental faculties and emotions. * although phrenology did not survive further scienti c study, it lead to other forms of studies: lesson studies and aphasia studies. Phineas gage: largely studies for behavioural changes after his incident with the railroad spike penetrating through his skull and brain. Paul broca ( tan ) : paul broca studies his patient tan who had lost his ability to speak, aphasia. Although he had normal motor capability of the mouth and tongue, he had lost his ability to grammatical speak or coordinate the nerves associated with speech. Broca notices a small lesson in the frontal lobe in the left cerebral hemisphere, which we now know is the area responsible for speech production.
