57 views6 pages

Document Summary

Flows from minority groups to majority groups and vice versa. Any group can be a target of stereotyping & prejudice. Stereotypes are more likely to be held for social groups (racial, ethnic groups). Many aspects of your identity leave you vulnerable to prejudice: nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, weight, even age. Simple dislike of a group can be relentless and can lead to extreme hatred, to thinking of its members as less than human, & to behaviour such as torture, murder and genocide. Modern prejudice: many people have become more careful to outwardly act unprejudiced even if they inwardly maintain their prejudiced views. People have learned to hide their prejudice to avoid being labelled racist or sexist, but when the situation is "safe", their prejudice will be revealed. Evans, garcia, garcia, and baron (2003) found that people rated a certain ethnicity more positive hen the experimenter was in the room.
