Psych 2b03 chapter 1 - the study of the person. Personality psychology addresses how people feel, think, and behave. Psychological triad: how people feel think and behave. Personality: an individual"s characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior together with the psychological mechanisms behind those patterns. Basic approaches to personality and their focal topics. Social learning theory: draws inferences about the ways that mental processes determine which behaviors are learned and how they are performed. Bf skinner thought that behaviorism explained everything relevant to psychology. Biological psychologists proclaim that everything about personality reduces to a matter of genes, physiology, and brain anatomy. Major advocates of every basic approach have claimed that their approach can explain everything and that the other are all wrong. In reality, all the approaches complement rather than compete with each other. Each addresses a different set of questions about human psychology. There is an inevitable trade-off faced by personality theorists.
