PSYCH 2B03 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: Observational Learning, Behaviorism, Personal Construct Theory
Document Summary
Personality comes from experience and consists of the resulting associations between simple ideas. Watson and skinner believed that the best vantage point for understanding a person is from the outside because that is where the visible causes of behavior are to be found. Behaviorists - we can only know what we can see, and we can see everything we need to know. Behaviorist believes that all knowledge worth having comes from direct public observation. Only valid way to know about someone is to watch his behaviors. Personality is the sum of everything you do. Personality does not include traits, unconscious conflicts, psychodynamic processes, conscious experiences or anything else that cannot be directly observed. Causes of behavior can be observed as directly as behavior itself. Causes are not hidden in the mind; they can bee found in the individuals environment. Environment refers to: rewards and punishments in physical and social world.
