Colour exists as our way of interpreting light waves. Our ability to see in colour is not because the objects are inherently colorful but because the objects / surfaces we look at reflect certain wave lengths of the visible spectrum. These visible wavelengths trigger certain patterns in the responses of our brain that give rise to this subjective experience. Color = a creation of our minds. It adds to the richness of our visual experience: allows us to find things easier too. But also has a purpose beyond adding richness to aesthetics. Ex bulls with the red cape: bulls actually do not see it as red (only see it as grey, actually responding to the waving of the cape instead.
