Exist for studying the structure and function of the brain. Brain injury links brain anatomy with behavioural deficits. Must be specific to target the function of the brain region. Advantage: a dire(cid:272)t (cid:373)easure of a (cid:271)rai(cid:374) stru(cid:272)ture(cid:859)s fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374) Disadvantage: hard to selectively target particular regions and draw conclusions. Solution: specific brain lesions can be studied in animal models. Targeted electrical stimulation can also provide insight on brain function. Single cell stimulation helped map behaviour to specific brain regions: critical areas of the brain must be intact and undamaged for research to be conducted. Single cell recording reveals the function of individual neurons: small electrode is inserted to a live animal model and tasks are recorded. Mri provides higher resolution images of the brain: more detailed images of the brain. Eegs display the activity from specific populations of neurons. Interpreting neuroimaging data can be challenging and ambiguous.
