Oil, terrorism, and america"s national security (klare 2002) Since 9/11 we"ve seen that there is a close relationship between terrorism, the pursuit of oil, and us national security. In this relationship there is a strong likelihood of armed conflict. Iraq was the only country with nearly as much oil as saudi: china and russia also wanted in on the oil. Link between oil and national security has been a big part of us military policy since wwii and will increase as reserves dwindle. Western oil firms: oil accounts for 94% of exports and 80% of government income, one man (gen sassou-nguesso) controlled oil income until the first election. See violence and terrorism as the only way to redistribute wealth. In response, bush gave them million to forcefully protect pipeline.
