Opening sentence signals powerful and lasting changes in world history. Marx discovers the continuity of class struggle and claims that such antagonism provides the engine for the development of society. The history of society results from the history of class struggles. Every time oppressed and oppressor face off, it results in a revolutionary reconstitution of society at large. In all of history we find an arrangement of society into various orders. Each step in development is accompanied by a corresponding political advance. The means of production and exchanged, founded by the bourgeoisie, are generated in feudal society. Proletarians: lower state of the middle estate (tradespeople, shopkeepers, etc, proleteriats are recruited from all classes of the population, go through various stages of development.
