Document Summary

A signal can be a physiological trait, morphological traits, and/or behaviors. When an individual honeybee scout finds food, it flies back to the hive and recruits others to help exploit the food: communicates this via the waggle dance. This is a behavior performed by a honeybee scout the recruits works to a food source. Moves in a figure eight pattern: waggle dance indicates direction and distance. Further research into honeybee communication looked into if the waggle dance simply presents the odor and the scouts will simply search for that odor on their own. Examined flight path of recruits that viewed the waggle dance. Only food available was at feeding stations. Bees were marked when they left the hive and the initial bee that visited the feeder was recorded. Bees recruited by the waggle dance were tracked and released either at the hive or at one of 3 locations 200-250m sw of the hive.
