It"s the largest geographic region but ha smallest population; most sparsely populated areas making it subject to boom and bust cycles. Small population is due to limited capacity of land to support people, aboriginal people have high growth rate and low death, and education/job experience of aboriginals is low. Resource frontier: has economy based on exploitation of energy and mineral resources (ex. Two visions: norther frontier; great wealth waiting to be discovered (i. e. search for gold). More contemporary view is large corporations with capital investments and technology undertaking megaprojects which are large-scale resource developments: homeland; a place where aboriginal culture and language can flourish . People have strong appreciation for natural resources, culture and political/economic issues affecting their home. These don"t always mix well, however there"s been converging agreement to shift political power from federal to territorial governments.
