Warning is when the tornado is sighted. Safety: seek shelter underground, or inside strong houses away from walls and windows. Otherwise, lying in a ditch, covering your head. Main danger is fine debris! mobile home or car is not safe. Drive away to safety at right angles to tornado: wildfires and avalanches. Wildland fires allow for forest thinning, reduced understory fuel, permitting growth of particular species in trees. 3 components needed for fire: fuel, oxygen, heat.
